Welcome to Harthaven Art Instruction! My name is Sylvia Barnhart and I live in Northwest Redding in beautiful Northern California. I have been teaching art to homeschool students since 2006. I love to bring out the potential in each of my students. I believe that we are all created in God’s image and carry His creative nature inside of us. Everyone can be an artist! With my customized approach to teaching, I’ve consistently seen my students’ confidence and skill set rise. I love what I do and it makes me happy to share my love for art with others. Since I began teaching in 2006, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my students succeed while they grow in their love of making art!
Art Classes for Children and Homeschool Students of All Ages
JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH
7th Grade Through 12th Grade
Classes for older students are customized to meet their skill level and their preferences. Drawing, Watercolor Painting, Acrylic Painting and the basics of Sculpture are some of the mediums available. An Art History portion can be added for independent study if High School students need extra content to fulfill their credit hours.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL & JUNIOR HIGH
4th Grade Through 8th Grade
This class is for Elementary Age students or Junior High students who have not yet taken any art classes. This class will focus on learning skills and techniques in various mediums that will equip students to better express themselves artistically. My goal for this age group is to give students success, so that they will gain confidence and skill in their artistic abilities. We will do fun projects that will show off their progress.
ELEMENTARY AGE
Kindergarten Through 3rd Grade
Fun with Art!! The focus of this class is making art that the students can be proud of while having fun. We will learn age appropriate techniques and experience a variety of mediums in an encouraging environment. I will be their cheer leader! I firmly believe that confidence at this age will carry on into their later years and spur them on to continue practicing and growing.
SUMMER ART CAMPS!
Proceeds will help fund our summer mission trip to Mexico
My 15 year old daughter will be my assistant for these camps. She is an amazing artist! We are offering these camps to raise money for a mission trip this summer to Rancho de Sus Ninos in Tecate, Mexico. My daughter is excited to go and serve at "The Mission" and I am delighted to be able to join her.

A BIT ABOUT ME
I grew up in Southern California but spent most of my adult life living in the Midwest. I have a Liberal Arts degree in Youth Ministry with a minor in Art. Three years ago, I returned to California along with my wonderful husband and five of my six amazing children, after living for 10+ years in Minnesota. My oldest son recently graduated from college and lives in Minneapolis with his wife who is finishing her college degree. I have homeschooled my children since my firstborn started kindergarten, 19 years ago. I've been teaching Art to homeschool children in various settings since 2006. I have been a New Day Academy Vendor for 2 years (fingerprinting and background checks are complete!!). I love our country home, my 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats, 3 bunnies, many chickens and my garden.
